Heaven & Earth

Delight in His beauty and the glory of His creation

No haze, no city lights, no smog. Just the wipsy sound of air moving through the trees. My time last week up in the mountains of Chiang Dao brought me back to childhood days.

Picking flowers, plucking fruits right from trees or catching fire flies brings such simple joy to my soul.

Earthquake

3:56 pm -Studying on my desk.
Humming to the tune of “I’m singing in the rain”.

3:57 pm -Everything suddenly shakes.
Feeling fascinated.

3:57.30 pm -My standing fan grew feet to move around.
My desk seemed like a bone shaker as it wobbled about.
It felt like a moving motion when the waves slapped against a boat.

3:58 pm -I realized this isn’t funny.
Sent a prayer up to God.
Ran down to where my family had already gathered.
Lots of commotion around the neighborhood.

3:59 pm -The earth returns to its normal self.
The quake becomes the talk of the town!

4:00 pm- Amused at my first experience!
Ran around the house to check out if i could spot any new cracks.

I just checked up on news and the quake measured magnitude 6.1. It struck in western Laos. It is said to be the strongest one to hit the area. I live about 60km from the epicenter. Thankfully no damage done. Life is exciting!

Never Forget

7 days was just too short.
It hurts so much to walk away.
But I gotta go on singing & so do you.
As i waved you goodbye,
You crossed the river back to life in Burma.

Don't cry now my little children.
Someday, one day we'll meet again.
Parting gives us inward pain
But we shall still be joined in heart.

Your smile,
Your hugs,
Your laughter,
and tears will stay with me forever.

It was a week full of fun and learning with more than 40 campers. As we had our closing ceremony around the campfire, Harry gave a powerful message on obedience towards God. The Lord touched many hearts in a very special way.
It was an emotional time.

It's only a couple of hours since we parted.
Looking through the hundreds of pictures.
I'm already having children withdrawal symptoms.
These kids just love to have someone hold them close.
Someone to ask how they are doing.
These simple gestures means a lot.
Funny how it felt nice to be a mother.

"Don't forget me teacher" said Ah Jah.

A chance to live

On this night, I was THIS close to death. I had to screech to a stop in the middle of the main street. As i said "God help me!" I could feel the car past me as my heart stopped. My world just stood still for a spilt second. You know you car drivers should always check that your headlights are on when you’re driving at night! Especially on the roads of Mae Sai where streets lights are just dim.Alright but it was my fault too. My night vision is just lousy. Character to develop this month: cautiousness! Or you know what! I think I should just stay with cycling my trusty bicycle.

This incident shook me but it allowed me to remember the words of Charles Spurgeon. He said “Men have been helped to live by remembering that they must die.” Just assuming that the average person dies at 70. If you are 20, you have 2,500 weekends to live. If you are 30, you have 2,000 weekends left and if you’re 60, you have a mere 500 weekends left until the day death comes! One can better relate to “weekends” while “years” puts death into the distance.

Watched the movie called The Scarlet Pimpernel? During the height of the French revolution, aristocrats were executed by guillotine. The guillotine was surrounded by old hags, who shrieked for joy as each head rolled into the basket.

Seriously, it must have been horrific to be waiting the death row. But I realized that this is the plight of every human being. All humanity has a large holding cell, with bright lighting, good ventilation and a big blue roof. We can travel around this great world and enjoy its pleasures, but we are still in a holding cell, waiting for the moment when the great chopper of death falls upon us. Ten out of ten die.

Am I ready to face God on judgment day? Am I doing what I ought to do for Him? I don’t want to just waste this life away. Got to treat every day as though it were my last- one day I will be right.

Lend a hand

Seeing children able to come together in a little corner, read, laugh at pictures and discover new things has been something I love watching. Amazing how a hyper active child can sit down and entertain himself with just a colored filled book as he lets his imagination run wild.

I personally never was a bookworm but ironically the library was my hangout place. Maybe it was because it’s a block away from my house, or was it that I could meet new friends, or perhaps it was just somewhere I could have some time alone.

It’s been more than a year that I’ve been in Thailand. During this time, I have collected a quantity of children books donated by friends, and I’ve been thinking of starting a simple library here. The church that I’m presently attending, Mae Sai Grace, has a newly built room for this! The library’s target users are the Burmese migrant children.

At the moment, it is totally empty. To start off the library, we need bookshelves. Been praying about it and we intend to start off with 2. I estimate that one bookshelf would cost about S$50. So we would need S$100. I pray that funds could be raised by 1st June 07.

Two friends of mine are coming up from Singapore to help me set this up among other things. If you wish to donate please email me at lyd_fong@hotmail.com. Any amount would be so appreciated! I will update this blog once the amount is met.
