For a Season

Hello, I was beginning to wonder when will my weekend ever come! Finally. I spent my day off meeting with four different groups of lovely people. My brother, church BS girls, cheer com and my ED's surprise farewell dinner all the way at Changi Business Park!

It's Hannah's last week at work. My boss and mentor these past 2 months, I'm going to miss her much. I could never ask for someone like her. She often gathers us to pray for situations we might be facing. She's always so patient to teach and humble to learn. When she broke the news to the staff that she's resigning... no one spoke much that day. That's the impact she's made in our lives! The energy she gives to our office is irreplaceable.

Though I'm sad, I'm happy for her. Trusting that God will bring the next brave and godly ED!

Only He knows

I used to withdraw when things went wrong in my life, but I guess as I grow older I begin to realize that bad things are sometimes the best things that could ever happen to me. God sometimes allows things to fall apart just to remind me of my total dependence on Him. This season of my life has definitely been the best and worst for which I'm grateful for.

I grew to express myself in person, I grew to say "no" as I never like turning people down and I grew to obey God more and more. I believe that working at Girls' Brigade Headquarters since 2 Aug is where God has placed me in this season of life and am absolutely loving it, though I face many challenges. This is not a job to me, this is ministry! I don't know why some don't see it that way? Giving up my Saturdays wasn't easy, that meant that I would be less involved in church. I had to pray for a lot of understanding and discernment for myself and the people around me.

You know, I kind of forgot how much I used to love blogging here and I think a blog should be totally honest and not just what you want to project your life to be, for others to see. I enjoy sharing with people and at the end of the day, everyone of us, regardless of lifestyles, age difference, country and interest, we can inspire and encourage each other knowingly/unknowingly.

A lil backdated but...

Yes, somebody sneaked into my heart quite sometime ago...
Good friends since we were both 13, we've come a long way.
Indeed, in His time He makes all things beautiful... in His time.

an open wound...

...a cut deep enough that the pain cannot be forgotten and the wound would take time to heal, as much as I pray that with God's strength it would be a faster process. An environment that I thought as "safe" since I was a young child, no longer stands to be. In the first place I never really felt it, I just accepted it as a matter of fact till it hit hard this time. My eyes have been opened and I now stand guarded.

I write this with disappointment rather than hurt because I have chosen to forgive. We are all humans, I understand.

praying for the nations

"Talking to men for God is a great thing, but talking to God for men is greater still." -E.M. Bounds

an amazing day, serving together with an amazing team all because of our amazing God. Many were moved to tears. Lord, You have told us that if your people would pray You will heal our land as we seek Your Holy face. We'll turn from all our wicked ways, hear from Heaven even now as we've prayed!

God answered one of my prayers on this very day, one that I had spent too much time worrying. I actually freaked myself out and lost sleep over it. I was brought back down on my knees and there He heard my cry. I really need this and i'm going to schedule this more often.

Start well, End well!

Life has been a flurry of activities, life changing events... I don't know who ever comes here any longer. Maybe that's why I've finally decided to update this space haha. I'm hearing jingle bells already, 2 more weeks to Christmas break!

The end-quarter symptoms are showing once again. This coming week is another highly stressful one... the intensity of 5 modules is breathing down my neck. 2 essays due, 10 pages each and I'm at zero word count! 1 report and preparing for RFKC (Royal Family Kid's Camp) training this Sat. I'm doing a session for the counselors.

This final year has been really tough. I woke up this morning wondering if I am going to make it, or if anything I do would make a difference anyway. But i guess whether or not it does, at least I can say I tried and gave it my all.

I know some people that holds the most stressful jobs in an ever fluctuating environment. But yet each time I see them, they have this smile on their faces, genuine happiness in their hearts and always so calm and objective. It makes me wonder... are they for real? Such an inspiration. It's a choice to make!

It's really by the grace of God that I've come this far and I also got to say that God has sent me a special angel who's been so encouraging and loving! I'm reminded of how everything is made beautiful in His time and we just gotta keep trusting Him even when the future seems bleak.

When u hit rock bottom only way is up!

When you think you've hit the bottom and the bottom gives way
And you fall into a darkness; no words can explain
And you don't know how you make it out alive
Jesus will meet you there

When the doctor says "I'm sorry we don't know what else to do."
And you're looking at your family wondering how they'll make it through
Whatever road this life takes you down
Jesus will meet you there

When the jury says "guilty" and the prison doors close
When the one you love says nothing; just packs up and goes
When the sunlight comes and your world's still dark
Jesus will meet you there

When you've failed again and all your second chances have been used
And the heavy weight of guilt and shame is crushing down on you
And all you have is one last cry for help
Jesus will meet you there

When you realize the dreams you've had for your child won't come true
When the phone rings in the middle of the night with tragic news
Whatever valley you must walk through
Jesus will meet you there

He knows the way to wherever you are
He knows the way to the depths of your heart
He knows the way cos' He's already been where you're going
Jesus will meet you there
He will meet you there

Jesus met me right there :)

Been up to

I am officially in the clouds with church history. And it's not a "Cloud Nine" feeling. Thankful for the long weekend though! I love cycling, I go so fast that it's perpetually windy. I get to explore much more than my feet can. I love prawning, the excitement of catching and cooking it alive. Sounds evil I know. I love kite flying, it takes my breath away... big fields please! Got to do all these with my Bible Study Group (BSG) which made it all the more awesome! I think most people have grown out of their city ways as well. I like!

Farewell

Eccl 7:4 "The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning..." Saying goodbye can never be an easy thing to do but it's happen for all of us at least once in our lifetime. Ah Kong, Auntie Dolly's father passed away 2 days ago at the age of 81. He was like a grandpa to me.

Seen him in and out of the hospital from one who went out daily with his kakis to eat the best food in town, to being cared for almost 24/7 and yet he was still very much alive! He makes me ashamed of myself, for sometimes half-living day to day.

I don't know for you, but for me, funerals are for the living not the dead. It's a time that brings sweet remembrance, healing, a proper closure and permission to move on. Thank you Ah Kong for being the life of a party, for showing me that I must live and enjoy the abundant life in Christ!

for this, i have Jesus

Just want to climb into bed and curl up like a fetus. A little cloud of worry has drifted in and sat itself on my forehead. I hate grey feelings, it's not black nor white. I'm not an iron lady, I'm just a big kid inside.

I can't see what the future holds. I can only see what is before me today, what I will do in the next few hours. I can go about telling others how to fight their giants but I'm terribly timid when it comes to fighting my own. I annoy myself with my timidity.

while it's raining outside...

I thought I should type something here hahah. Something bright and cheery! I know you must be thinking FINALLY eh? Hope I didn't leave you in a dangle. It's been so long I don't even know how to start talking about everything. So much has happened, so much has changed. I did quite a bit during the holidays from Israel, Turkey to Melbourne! I love to travel!

I'm 22 now and into my 2nd year at EAST! This quarter is one crazy one with 9am-9pm classes. Felt a little disheartened at the beginning of this week with the copious amounts of readings. Yet when I look back on the past year, I survived by the grace of God, time and time again so what's another year eh!

Israel Day 1

Shalom! It's 9pm here, Singapore time 2am. This is going to be a short post because I am absolutely bushed out after the 14 hrs flight and immediately starting our adventure through the various Biblical sites. During the drive from the aiport, I was struck by the green I saw. Certainly wasn't how I pictured Israel! Apparently many trees were planted following the independence war.

Okay, just found out I have to wake up at 5am! Zzzzz so I shall just tell about these pictures here. They were taken at Beth Shemesh ("house of the sun") This city, assigned to the Levites, marked the historical border between Israel and the Philistines. This was where Samson lived! I can't believe I'm here! Very excited for tomorrow. Will show you soon the interesting food (pita, hummus & ultra sweet deserts) that I've been eating. Stay tuned...

EAST 2010 /2011 Student Council

I can only lead by following close to Jesus! Today, was our school's AGM. 3 Singaporeans, 3 from China and a Korean have been elected. Ee Foo is President! Woho! We were given 30 sec for a speech. I really did not expect this! In fact, when I was first approached sometime ago, I immediately declined it.

Truth is, I felt there were much more capable people than I. My average busy-ness and ministry commitments were also a high concern. I was calculating the cost of many things and carefully planning out how I would get through each quarter, ignorning the very fact that it is God who enables me!

No, I did not hear a clear loud voice of God if you are thinking so. Amongst the 14 names that were nominated, 7 were to be elected into the new council. I just told God that I am now willing and His will be done.

Yup, so I trust that this appointment, at this special point in my life, is from God. It's part of my growing. I will cast my fears behind me, believe who He is and what He says about me, and believe in obedience to His word. I look forward to an exciting new academic year with this SC, as we serve our beloved friends at EAST!

"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever- do not abandon the works of your hands." Psalm 138:8. I will let this promise sink deep into my heart and mind.

83rd Enrolment Service

God is faithful. God is near. God is at work! Thank you to those who knew about this and was praying for me. I could not have faced it alone. It was an intense week, I felt like the wick of a candle that was almost about to burn itself away... then God used this sharing that I prepared for to encourage my heart. I am a weak lamb so in need of my Shepherd! Grateful to be learning to let my emotions take me to God instead of away from Him. I need to keep coming back to the cross.

Blessed Good Friday & Easter, everybody!

I absolutely can't wait!

Itinerary

May 10 (Mon) Evening check-in Changi Airport for a late evening departure for Istanbul aboard Turkish Airlines.

May 11 (Tues) Transit in Istanbul for a short time early in the morning and arrive in Israel mid-morning. After clearing immigration we board a bus and travel a short distance to see what life was like in Bible times- including the food we will get to eat for lunch! We stop at Bet Shemesh overlooking the Sorek Valley where Samson lived and where the ox cart came from the Philistines carrying the Ark of the Covenant. We continue south to the Elah Valley where David defeated Goliath. We drive up into the Judean Hill Country and spend the night at a community developed by Finnish Christians.

May 12 (Wed) We drive along the Coastal Plain to Caesarea, on the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. It was here that Peter preached in Cornelius' home and later Paul was imprisoned for 2 years. We continue north to Mt. Carmel- where Elijah took a stand for God against the prophets Baal. After lunch, we walk through the strategic city, Megiddo, which Solomon fortified. We will cross the Valley of Jezreel (Valley of Armageddon) and experience what life would have been life in Nazareth during the time of Christ. We will then descend into the Rift Valley to the Sea of Galilee where we check into our lakeside hotel.

May 13 (Thurs) We travel through upper Galilee on our way to Hazor, the largest city of Palestine during the days of Joshua and Solomon. In Dan we will climb the steps leading to the altar where Jeroboam placed a golden calk when the nation divided. We stop at Caesarea Philippi where Peter confessed Jesus to be the Messiah. We go up to the Golan Heights and see some of the plains of Bashan. Later, we will stop by the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee and see where Jesus healed a demonic and a herd of pigs rushed over the cliff and drowned.

May 14 (Fri) Today the focus on sites from the life of Christ. We travel by boat across the Sea of Galilee and view the "Jesus Boat" which shows the size of boats used by fishermen in that area during the first century. Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount on the Mount of the Beatitudes. More of Jesus' recorded miracles were performed in Capernaum than any other city. We climb Mt. Arbel to overview significant biblical sites on the shores of the Sea of Galilee before going to a baptismal site of the Jordan River. At sunset, we still start the Sabbath with a special evening meal at our lakeside hotel.

May 15 (Sat) We visit 2 biblical sites along the southern edge of the Valley of Jezreel: Ein-Harod- the spring where Gideon selected 300 men for his army and Bet Shean-where the Philistines hung bodies of Saul and Jonathan after Israel's defeat. We follow the Jordan River until we reach the Dead Sea and Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. We stop by Ein Gedi where David hid near when he fled from Saul. We will then check into our hotel along the southern shores of the Dead Sea.

May 16 (Sun) After breakfast we set out for Masada, which Herod the Great fortified and where the Jews had their final resistance against the Romans until A.D. 73. We continue on to Beersheva, the home area of Abraham and Isaac. Upon returning to our hotel, we have the late afternoon free to relax, reflect on what we've learned and experienced, and enjoy an "unsinkable swim" in the Dead Sea.

May 17 (Mon) We drive north along the Dead Sea and stop at Jericho, the first city the Israelites conqured when they entered the Promised Land. We travel up the road of the Good Samaritan through the Judean Wilderness and stop at "Genesis Land" to experience what life was like for Abraham when he arrived in the Promised Land. After lunch, we continue uphill to get our first glimpse of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. We walk down the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was betrayed. We check into our hotel located near the old City of Jerusalem.

May 18 (Tues) We enter the Old City of Jerusalem via the Dung Gate and walk to the Wailing Wall where many religious Jews come to pray. We follow a tunnel along the Western Wall and see some of the large stones Herod the Great used in the construction of the Temple Mount. A short distance away is the fortress Antonia where Pilate condemned Christ to death. We then follow the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the site of the crucifixion. We walk through the Jewish Quarter and see a section of the wall Hezekiah fortified. Observing remnants of a home destroyed in 70 A.D. helps us better understand the setting of the Book of Hebrews. Later we visit the Upper Room where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples.

May 19 (Wed) We walk up to the Temple Mount area. Upon leaving, we go a short distance to the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the crippled man. After lunch we travel a few kilometers south to Bethlehem's Shepherd's Fields where the angels told the Shepherds of Christ's birth. We go into Bethlehem itself and vist the anscient Church of the Nativity.

May 20 (Thurs) The City of David is where we start our day and proceed to the nearby Pool of Siloam, where Jesus sent the blind man to wash and be healed. At the Israel Museum we'll see the Dead Sea Scrolls display and view a scale-model of Jerusalem as it was in the time of Christ. After lunch there is time for shopping! rest, or sightseeing in the Old City. In the mid-afternoon, a trip to the Holocaust Memorial. In the evening we celebrate a traditional Passover dinner in the small village of Ein Kerem.

May 21 (Fri) After breakfast, we gather at the Garden Tomb where we remember Christ's death and resurrection with a communion service. We have a final lunch together celebrating all that we learnt before travelling to the airport for departure to Istanbul.

May 21-25 My own Turkey Extension! Backpacking! Palaces, Museums, Cafes here I comeee :)

Blood Donation

Today at the library, there was this blood donation drive organised by red cross. Was kind of bored with the books and I just had this urge in me to do it. Totally unplanned for, a last minute decision.

Didn't know that there will be so many procedures, forms to fill in and questions asked by the Doctor but I was excited, this would be my first donation! I passed all the requirements. Since I went for a run this morning, I must have become healthier haha.

The nurses were really nice and friendly. However, as I sat on that bench and looked away (did not want to see the needle poking into me)... they couldn't find my vein! Kept telling me to squeeze the ball in my palm tighter. I did! So tight that the ball has my fingernail marks. They rubbed my arm, called the Doctor to come, but in the end they told me my veins are way too small. My heart sank.

How does one get bigger veins? Mop floor and handwash clothes? I'll be back!

Witnessing at Bugis

Target: Fan Club of some Chinese singer
Seeds being planted
Sharing stories and reports at Macs

It was a great opportunity to get into one-on-one conversations with teenage girls who were just standing around for hours and hours in wait for their "ou xiang" to appear. I started most of my conversations using a survey of religious belief. To my surprise, many were willing to do it. Maybe to kill time?

I was able to get into 4 good conversations and shared the gospel using the Four Spiritual Laws. I was reminded of how wrong I am to assume that people don't want to hear about God! Tonight, as I prepare Bible study on the Samaritan woman at the well, God highlights it to me that we can reach unsaved people when we go out to where they are and talk with them.

Many of them knew that Jesus died on the cross, but what does it mean for them? Many understood that they were sinners, but never heard about the Judgement Day. They are waiting to hear!

I believe that those I have talked to will go home and think about it, while I go home and pray for them. One girl (Rachel) was really open and interested in learning more. She gave me her phone number and I hope to follow up!

I have much to learn regarding witnessing and I often feel like I could have presented it in a better way, worded it differently but I have to remind myself that it takes practice and it is better to say something than nothing at all. I am glad that God can also use weak vessels to accomplish His purposes!

After hours of hunting

Too bad, I wasn't spotted for this freebie but I got a great deal as well! The crowd was crazy and it was only the first day. Fiddling around now with my new Acer Aspire 1410 and I really like it! It's a mere 1.4kg, soo light compared to my HP which was probably 3.5kg? I can now easily pop it into my bag and out of the house I go.

The battery life is also fantastic! Able to last for at least 8 hours. With a 3 year warranty, it can't go that wrong! They say it is the in between of a netbook and notebook. I love the ruby red colour too, something different. The 11.6 inch screen is easy on the eyes. Though it seems relatively small, the keyboard layout is just right. Not too crammed together. They should hire me to advertise if I continue on about it haha.

Prayed and prayed for a reasonable price, something suitable to meet my needs and I think this is perfect! Even in purchases, I believe God leads.

Think positive! Be positive.

I miss some of my best girlfriends, I miss my laptop! Hope to find a netbook at the IT fair this Thursday. If you didn't know, my HP crashed on me about a week ago. I think every student has at least experienced this frustration once.

My face is erupting with zits and my whole body still aches from the Inter-college games day. Ugh the crazy hot weather's finally gotten to me. The sky looks grey and the air completely still tonight!

Am now into week 6 of my last quarter for year 1! 5 more weeks to go before final exams (again). I nap in most of my bus rides to and back from school in order to catch up on my lack of sleep.

It's 2:37am as I type. Why am I still here? Well I realized that since neglecting this space, many have missed out on happenings in my life. Actually, I'm doing this especially for you girls around the world. You know who you are :) so we can stay in touch with each other's life. Hurry up and come back!

Today, I bought tom yum cup noodles to put in my locker! As much as I complain about the stress faced from the amount of assignments given, I love going to school. Wait... rather, I love the people at school, truly! Fern, Foo and Fong. We're called the 3 musketeers. Both their birthdays fall on the same day this weekend and I just can't thank God enough for bringing them into my life! God faithfully uses them to encourage me. I enjoy their company to bits, they make studying in the library fun!

You know how everyone looks forward to weekends? I don't. I love my weekdays!
